Hindsight (“we”) runs hindsightdaily.com. We don't have accounts and we don't ask for your name or email to play. This page explains the little data that is involved.
Your streak, games played, win percentage and today's daily result are saved in your browser's localStorage. They never leave your device and you can delete them by clearing your browser's site data.
Free-form questions and guesses are sent to our server to be answered. To answer them we may send the question text, together with a fact sheet about the event, to Anthropic's API (Claude). We store answers in a cache keyed by the normalised question text so everyone gets the same answer; this cache contains no information about who asked. Please don't type personal information into the game.
To prevent abuse and keep costs under control we limit how many questions can be asked per day from one network. For this we compute a one-way salted hash of your IP address and keep a counter under that hash for up to 2 days. We do not store your raw IP address. Our hosting provider (Vercel) processes IP addresses in its server logs as part of delivering the site.
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and a few anonymous game events (for example “round started” or “result copied”). It does not use cookies and does not track you across websites.
We show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message (Google's certified consent management platform) before personalised ads or non-essential cookies are used, and can change their choice at any time via the privacy link in that message.
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you and to object to processing. Because we don't link data to identities, in most cases we hold nothing that identifies you. Contact us at hello@hindsightdaily.com with any request. Hindsight is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
